Explore Fall Flowers & Plants with Kids Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired

Spring, a time of new life and new beginnings, may be the time you think of exploring plants and flowers, but don't pass up Fall! The cool Autumn weather brings out the best in a variety of vegetables, foliage, and flowers that are not only beautiful to look at, but touch, taste and smell, too. Take time outside or bring in potted plants or samples indoors for your child to explore with her senses. Use descriptive language as your child feels the knobby bumps on a gourd or the softness of the delicate petals forming a plump flowerhead of a Mum- how do they smell? Slice up a few apples for a fun taste test activity or explore the gooey insides of different squash.
